Architype
Architype, derived from the ancient Greek word for ‘Archetype’, signifies the original model or a perfect example of something. This innovative interior design practice is driven by a social mission.
Architype delves into three essential elements of interior and architectural design: object, light, and void. By carefully selecting colors, geometries, and textures, they transform these elements into spaces that are both comfortable and functional. Their design philosophy is rooted in critical regionalism, which aims to balance local identity with international style. This approach emphasizes the importance of local materials and craftsmanship, reflecting a commitment to the communities and places they serve.
A guiding principle for Architype comes from Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe: “No design is possible until the materials with which you design are completely understood.” They believe that good design should be accessible to everyone, as living and working well is a fundamental human desire, not a luxury.

Principal Designer of Architype
Liang Qing An, known as Jonas, is the Principal Designer at Architype. He embodies the belief that work is love made visible, seeing design not as a job, but as the creation of beloved spaces.
Jonas Liang founded Breathe Interior and Furniture Studio in 2010, completing numerous projects, including apartments, clinics, offices, centers, and exhibitions. His dedication and thirst for knowledge led him to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design with honors from the Glasgow School of Art in the United Kingdom. During his studies, he received the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) Final Year Scholarship for his exceptional academic and leadership achievements.
Jonas continued to hone his skills with DP Architects, one of the world’s top ten architecture firms. There, he contributed to notable projects such as the Terminal 2 Expansion in Singapore, The Light City of Penang Waterfront Development in Malaysia, and the Sanya Marriott Hotel with its Seaside Bar & Restaurants in China.
After a decade of diverse experiences and building a strong foundation, Jonas founded Architype in 2018. Through Architype, he aims to pursue his passion for design while giving back to society.
Silver Age Initiative
Architype is committed to giving back to the community, which led to the launch of the Silver Age Initiative in 2019. This program is designed to support elderly singles and couples in need. Architype believes that thoughtful design can foster better interdependent relationships between the elderly and their living environment, enabling them to enjoy their later years with confidence and independence.
Architype welcomes passionate individuals and organizations to collaborate on this initiative. For more information or to get involved, please write to [email protected].
