Architects 61 was established as a partnership by Tay Lee Soon and Yang Soo Suan. With the establishment of URA in 1974, the firm became increasingly involved in large-scale projects, primarily in the Central Business District.
Collaborating with international design consultants, architects 61 undertook several significant projects in the Central Business District, such as UOB Plaza, Hitachi/Caltex House, Temasek Tower, and Raffles City.
Incorporated in 1992, the firm expanded its capabilities to manage projects entirely, from design to documentation and construction supervision. Notable projects during this period included The Heeren, Capital Square, One Fullerton, and Fullerton Hotel.
Under the new leadership of Michael Ngu and Joseph Cheang, architects 61 refocused its efforts on the CBD, contributing to iconic projects like One Raffles Quay, Ocean Financial Centre, Asia Square Tower 1 and 2, and MBFC.
Diversifying its portfolio, the firm ventured into various sectors after completing notable works such as Marina One and Tanjong Pagar Centre. Its projects spanned across different areas, including Little India MRT station, Centre of Oral Health, Cleantech 3, Esplanade Waterfront Theatre, and Rifle Range Nature Park.

Robinson Tower also secured a position in the top ten for the 2019 Emporis’ Skyscraper Award, highlighting its architectural significance.
Furthermore, Singtel Waterfront Theatre and Marina One received Honourable Mentions at the Esplanade Awards and the SIA Design Award in 2019, respectively.
